Isiolo Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo has officially been impeached after the Isiolo County Assembly overwhelmingly passed a motion to remove him from office.
Out of the 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), 16 voted in favour of the motion, with two members absent and none opposing. The session proceeded in accordance with Standing Orders after Governor Guyo failed to appear before the Assembly to defend himself, despite being formally invited.
The impeachment comes after weeks of deliberation involving public participation, legal consultations, and heated debates across all ten wards in Isiolo County.
The Speaker of the County Assembly is now expected to transmit the resolution to the Senate, which will determine whether to uphold or overturn the impeachment, in line with Article 181 of the Constitution and Section 33 of the County Governments Act.

The County Assembly stated that the decision demonstrated its firm stance on transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law.
The motion was initiated by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana, who cited several legal violations as grounds for the governor’s removal.
“Governor Guyo has contravened Chapter Six of the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act, and the Public Officers Ethics Act,” Godana said during the session.
“These Acts provide for respect for the rule of law, good governance, accountability, and transparency as key principles of leadership.”
Guyo’s impeachment was based on allegations of gross misconduct, violation of the Constitution and statutory laws, and abuse of office.
The Senate’s next move will be closely watched as the political fate of Governor Guyo now hangs in the balance.
