President William Ruto has escalated State House engagements with various regional leaders in what now appears to be new tact to secure his 2027 re-election.
The new strategy – going hand in hand with the cross-country tours – appears to be part of the President’s broader re-election scheme.

The teams are drawn from Central, Coast, Nyanza, Eastern, North Eastern, Rift Valley and Western regions.
Ruto’s deputy Kithure Kindiki has also not been left behind, with his residence a beehive of activities hosting back-to-back delegation of leaders from across the country.
The visits, framed as development consultations, are increasingly being viewed as part of Ruto’s broader plan to endear himself to the regions, consolidate loyalty and shape the political arithmetic.
Veteran human rights activist Suba Churchill termed the new trend as nothing but a poorly crafted campaign strategy.
“It is a poorly disguised campaign strategy that enables the President and his deputy make inroads into the areas that they think are critical for their continued stay in power and for purposes of recapturing power in 2027,” Suba told the Star on phone.
“You can clearly see the political angle to those visitations, most of them are from areas that used to be critical and opposed to the President.”
According to Suba, the only development tool the country has is the budget.
The latest delegation was yesterday when the President hosted a team from Kisumu county led by Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
Last week, the President hosted a delegation from Nakuru county where they deliberated on key development issues pertinent to the county.
The delegation was led by Governor Susan Kihika.
Other county teams so far hosted at State House since April include Siaya, Western (Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, Trans Nzoia), Tana River, Lamu, Mombasa, Kwale, Taita Taveta, Machakos, Makueni and Kitui counties.
Others are Kajiado, Narok, Samburu, Migori, Meru, Murang’a and Nairobi counties.
The President has also hosted religious leaders as well as artistes from Mt Kenya region.
In the session with the Kisumu team yesterday, the team while lauding national government’s intervention in the county, also submitted a memorandum on some of the projects they either want done or completed.
Some of the interventions in the country include the planned elevation of Jaramogi Teaching and Referral Hospital to a national referral facility.
So far the government has injected Sh2.8 billion to facilitate the transition.
Ruto’s administration is also keen on realising the multi-billion shilling Koru Soin Dam that will not only generate power but also check the perennial floods along the Nyando River basin.
There is also Muhoroni-Mamboleo Road, completion of Standard Gauge Railway as well Lake Victoria Ring road that are currently being considered in the 2025-26 budget.
While some leaders term the State House engagements as good platform to discuss development of various regions, critics however downplays it as a subtle negotiations for 2027.
