In a shocking development that has sent ripples through the entertainment world, convicted R&B superstar R. Kelly is making a desperate plea to US President Donald Trump to help him secure his freedom from jail.

According to CBS News, R. Kelly is alleging that federal authorities are plotting to kill him in prison.

The embattled singer, currently serving decades-long prison sentence for sex-related crimes, claims his life is in grave danger behind bars.

CBS News quoted a 20-page emergency motion filed by his legal team on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, where R. Kelly's attorneys are seeking direct intervention from President Donald Trump, citing recent high-profile pardons and arguing that their client's life is at risk.

“R. Kelly's life is now threatened, because of his willingness to fight and to expose the very kind of corruption that President Trump has been fighting and standing up to since the day he took that office," Kelly's attorney, Beau Brindley, stated at a press conference.

The core of the explosive allegation centers on a purported murder-for-release plot. The motion claims that a terminally ill inmate was allegedly offered freedom in exchange for killing Kelly. This inmate reportedly confessed the plot to Kelly in March, warning him about the danger.

Furthermore, Kelly's team alleges that both Kelly and this informant inmate are now being targeted by a second gang member. His legal team also claimed authorities tried to enlist another inmate to have Kelly killed and that they have evidence to prove it.

This dramatic plea comes as R. Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, continues to serve a substantial prison sentence. The Grammy-winning artist's career came to a halt in 2019 following his arrest and subsequent convictions on multiple federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges, involving the sexual abuse of minors.

In June 2022, he was sentenced to 30 years in prison in New York after being found guilty of nine counts, including sexual exploitation of children, bribery, sex trafficking, and racketeering.

In February 2023, he received an additional 20-year sentence in a separate federal trial in Chicago. As of 2025, he is serving a combined 31-year sentence at FCI Butner Medium I in North Carolina and is not expected to be released until December 21, 2045, when he will be nearly 79 years old.

Last month, President Trump commuted the sentence of notorious Gangster Disciples co-founder Larry Hoover, and according to CBS News, has said he might consider pardoning Sean "Diddy" Combs, who is currently on trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges.
