Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o, hailed as "The Giant of African literature," passed away on May 28, 2025, at the age of 87.

His powerful works include Detained: A Writer's Prison Diary (1981), chronicling his experiences during imprisonment.

Later memoirs delve into his past and literary awakening: Dreams in a Time of War: A Childhood Memoir (2010).

In the House of the Interpreter: A Memoir (2012) and  Birth of a Dream Weaver: A Memoir of a Writer’s Awakening (2016).

His final memoir, "Wrestling with the Devil: A Prison Memoir" (2018), revisits his time in confinement, showcasing his enduring engagement with themes of oppression and freedom.
