Content creator and TikToker Pritty Vishy has strongly expressed her disdain for labels such as “wife material” and “hardworking woman,” arguing that such titles are subtle tools of oppression against women.
In a candid post shared on Instagram, the social media star — who has recently undergone a significant weight transformation, which she attributes to using Ozempic — stated that she rejects being boxed into societal expectations that praise women for traits often rooted in traditional gender roles.
According to Vishy, she prefers to be perceived as “lazy” rather than conform to expectations that restrict her freedom under the guise of praise.
“Being called ‘wife material’ is abuse. Being called hardworking is disrespect. Being called a dedicated lady is abuse as well. Let me be lazy, just don’t marry me — yes, and I mean it,” she wrote.
Why Some Women Reject the Labels “Wife Material” and “Hardworking”
The terms “wife material” and “hardworking” may sound complimentary on the surface, but many women now view them as patronizing or limiting.
Critics argue that these labels often reduce a woman’s value to her ability to fulfill domestic roles or serve a man’s needs.
Roseline Adewuyi, a gender advocate and blogger, notes that such phrases perpetuate outdated stereotypes about women’s roles, failing to recognize individuality, ambitions, and personal freedom.
“It seems that is all a woman entails — as if women should fit into a box society has designed for them,” Adewuyi writes on her blog.
“Sometimes, it feels like being coerced into following a set of rules one isn’t comfortable with.”
She adds that women who reject these terms are not necessarily against marriage but are instead challenging the restrictive connotations those labels carry.
“They are only uncomfortable with what the phrase represents — with how it paints women as beings who should only be seen in a domesticated way.”
