Kenyan rapper and lyricist Kennedy Ombima, better known as King Kaka, has opened up about how his recent breakup with long-time partner Nana Owiti led him to discover a new life skill—cooking.

Speaking to entertainment journalists during the launch of his new cooking show Let Him Cook, the father of three revealed that adjusting to life as a single man pushed him to take charge of his meals.

“My inspiration to start my journey in the kitchen arose from entering my house alone and realising I need to cook. There’s a time I almost slept hungry and thought, if I continue like this, I might starve,” he said.

Kaka added that a weekend visit from his children was another wake-up call. “I struggled that weekend. Even preparing rice, I had to Google,” the award-winning rapper said, admitting that the experience prompted him to start learning how to cook more seriously.

From that moment, Let Him Cook was born. The show, in partnership with Bio Food Products Ltd, follows King Kaka as he explores cooking from a beginner’s perspective, aiming to normalise men taking charge of their kitchens.

When asked about his current relationship status, the scriptwriter and businessman clarified, “For now, I’m very single, but I’m not searching. I think I’m okay the way I am right now.”

King Kaka also spoke emotionally about a deeply personal moment from the past year. “My mother was very sick last year; she was put on oxygen. I cried a lot like a kid. Seeing her healthy again feels like a miracle. That’s why I’m moving around with her—I’m celebrating her,” he shared.

The Dundaing hitmaker and Nana Owiti officially announced their breakup in December 2024, ending a nearly 13-year-long relationship.

In a joint statement, they pledged to co-parent their three children with love and mutual respect while asking for privacy during the transition.
