EACC team hurriedly leaves Natembeya’s home amid tension

EACC officers hurriedly left the home of Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya after carrying out a two-hour search.

The officers were forced to board police land rovers amid tight security, even as cops fired teargas to disperse the crowd.

The EACC officers left behind eight damaged cars, which they had used on their way to the home in Milimani estate in Kitale town.

It took the intervention of hospital ward MCA Eric Wafula to cool down the angry crowd outside the home in order to allow the EACC team to leave.

Governor Natembeya was not at the home, but his aide said it was not clear what the officers took from the home.

“We just saw them leaving as angry crowds surrounded the home,” said the aide.

He said Natembeya would issue a statement in Nairobi.

Angry residents damaged several vehicles as the contingent of armed EACC and police officers raided the home.

The vehicles used by the officers were pelted with stones and tyres deflated as hundreds of residents stormed the home to protest against the raid at the home.

The raid started before 8am, leading to a search that lasted over two hours.

There was chaos as angry residents confronted some of the officers.

The EACC was expected to issue a statement on the matter.
