Benjamin Zulu, the internationally acclaimed life coach and counselling psychologist, has revealed how gambling has been designed to appeal to the poor with the idea that they can get rich quickly without breaking a sweat.
Speaking on NTV’s The Elevate program, Zulu claimed that many gambling algorithms have been designed and marketed to the poor in society to convince them that there is a way to get quick riches.
According to the renowned psychologist, this is why many victims of gambling addiction often come from informal settlements where many gambling shops are focused on selling the policy to the poor.
“Usually, we are not gambling but rather buying acceptance. We are trying to endure existence, trying to silence that void,” Zulu said.

“If only we can see people who are into it, and many of us have done it thinking it’s passing time then you are sucked in over and over again. Because many times, gambling is sold to the poor to believe there’s quick riches, to think that they can just get money in seconds. You need to be stupid to go that level to buy that,” Zulu added.
The psychologist added that gambling has now taken another turn, where it has become a means of healing for groups of people who are experiencing challenges of losing self-esteem.
He explained how some people who are lacking in psychology and those who have lost self-esteem have turned to gambling to find solace as well.
“There’s a second group that sucks in, those who have psychological deficiency, loss of self-esteem, emptiness and the thrill of the risk is what sucks them into gambling the most. Dopamine comes later, but on the surface, those gamblers think they can win those millions. You need to be very lazy to think than will actualize,” he added.
Dopamine is a type of neurotransmitter and hormone. It plays a role in many important body functions, including movement, memory and pleasurable reward and motivation.

Zulu says that often, many gambling addicts do not know the rules of life and how to earn a living legally, saying that anyone who knows the reality of life, it is not easy to put faith in money that they have not worked for.
“Actually, people who have learned how life works, you don’t even want to collect money on the ground, as your instincts will tell you, maybe that’s a trap. When you learn life, there’s nothing for free. You accept that and live peacefully,” Zulu advised.
