Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, has admitted that she loves to look beautiful and curvaceous, just like any other African woman.

In a video that has been shared online, Tems was speaking to a blogger during this year's Met Gala in New York City when she was asked what she loves about being a black woman.

Without hesitation, the beauty made it clear that what makes her feel more African is her curvy figure.

“I love being curvy, I love that I have a little bit of my backside, you know what I’m saying,” she said while beaming with excitement.

The event, held on May 5th, had the theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," which Tems and the other Nigerian stars embraced with their attire, and she talked about it in the interview.

“It feels really good [to represent Nigeria in the Met Gala] and I’m definitely into detail, I’m into bling. I think Nigerians are very extravagant in everything, and I’m very into that, but I always put on my spin, and I’m not afraid to be who I am,” she said.

During the red carpet interview, Tems also seized the opportunity to expand the dialogue surrounding African music. Although Afrobeats has garnered global interest in recent years, she highlighted that the continent's musical identity transcends this genre, adding that there are many music genres from Africa that are yet to make it to the international stage as Afrobeats.

“African music encompasses far more than Afrobeats,” she stated. “Numerous sounds are awaiting international exploration, and Afrobeats has merely unlocked the potential for what lies ahead.”

At the gala, Tems also met with the fashion icon, Ozwald Boateng, and she didn’t hesitate to express her excitement.

“I’m really happy to be part of this. I’m here with Ozwald Boateng, just being here with him is amazing,” she added.

Ozwald Boateng is an English fashion designer, best known for his trademark twist on classic tailoring and bespoke styles.

Tems rose to prominence after being featured on Wizkid's 2020 single "Essence", which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber.
