Human Rights activist Hanifa Farsafi and Kirinyaga Women Representative Njeri Maina are among Kenyan women who won big at the inaugural Thamani awards.
The Awards are aimed at recognizing and celebrating Kenyan mothers for their contributions to family, community, and national development.
The inaugural Thamani Awards 2025 was held at the KCB Leadership Centre in Karen, Nairobi, on May 11, 2025, on Mother's Day, and brought together women from countries across East Africa.
Kirinyaga women Rep, Jane Njeri Maina, who is the second youngest MP in the Kenyan Parliament, carried the day in the category for female parliamentarians.
"The voice of Reason 2025" In this Category, Mama Murima, as she is fondly referred to, was contesting with other nominees like Zamzam Mohamed (MP for Mombasa County), Millie Odhiambo (MP Suba), and Hezena Lematian (nominated senator).

Njeri won the award for her outstanding development record and contributions in parliament as a vocal female member of Parliament. She was joined by members of her constituency.
The award was presented to her by Advice Mundalo, the Jubilee Party National Chairman, who doubles up as a political analyst.

On the other hand, Hanifa Farsafi, who rose to fame during Gen Z demonstrations, and one who remains to as one of the most vocal young people in Kenya, won the best social media impact 2025.
In the category, Hanifa beat other social media change-stimulators like Elsa Majimbo, Shakira Wafula and Quinta Mbori.

As she took up the stage to receive the award, she lectured the politicians in attendance.
Also in attendance wa popular Tanzanian Actress, Wellu Sengu, popularly known as Matilda, who won the best Actress East Africa beating the likes of Jackie Matubia, Brenda Wairimu, and her fellow Tanzanian Irene Uwoya.

She's currently working on a number of movies in Nollywood. Sengu also joined popular Kenyan social media commentator, Cassypool, on stage when Principal Secretary for Economic Planning Bonface Makokha, presented the historical lifetime Achievement award to Tanzania’s president, Mama Samia Hassan Suluhu, as the first ever female president in East and Central Africa, also for her development record in Tanzania.
When the award was announced, Everyone in the auditorium stood as a sign of respect, and everyone felt Mama Samia deserved it. Cassypool said Mama Samia Suluhu is way better than most male presidents in the region.
The Thamani Awards featured 25 categories, including 21 competitive awards and four honorary recognitions.
Some of the notable categories included Best Media Personality, Outstanding Educator, and awards for women making notable contributions in business, healthcare, and social impact.
