Kibera-born rapper Stevo Simple Boy, known for his hit song "Mihadarati" and eccentric fashion sense, has set his sights on a new challenge: politics.

The artist, whose real name is Stephen Otieno, revealed plans to contest for the Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat in Kibera Ward during the 2027 elections.

A Voice for the Youth

Speaking to SPM Buzz, the artist—affectionately dubbed "Dragon Moto Testing"—explained his motivation:

"Apart from being a brand influencer, I am also an aspiring politician. I want to lead the people of Kibera. I’ll start from the bottom—as an MCA—because our youth lack jobs and complain about inaccessible bursaries. I want to solve these issues firsthand."

While some dismiss his announcement as a publicity stunt, Stevo insists his decision stems from genuine concern for his community.

He praised leaders like Mumias East MP Peter Salasya, who prioritise constituents' needs, and dismissed the notion that "politics is a dirty game," urging voters to "choose wisely."

Beyond Music: A Growing Legacy

Stevo’s political bid aligns with his recent philanthropic efforts. In March, he launched the Simple Boy Foundation, which focuses on:

Education: Free short courses for primary and secondary school leavers.

Anti-Drug Campaigns: Continuing the message of his breakout hit.

Job Creation: Tackling youth unemployment through skills training.

"If you’ve completed Class 8 or Form Four, we’ve partnered with schools to offer free courses," he announced on Instagram.

From Oyugis to Influence

Born in Homa Bay’s Oyugis area, Stevo rose to fame in 2019 with his socially conscious music. Recently, he’s expanded into viral TikTok skits, further solidifying his influence among young Kenyans.
