Furniture entrepreneur and founder of INJECT party, Morara Kebaso has attracted mixed reaction from Kenyans online after asking young Kenyans who are registered voters to contribute more than one billion Kenyan Shillings for his 2027 presidential campaign.

According to him, the majority of Kenyan voters are young people between the ages of 18-35 and he challenged them to volunteer and donate money for the presidential campaign of their candidate who is a fellow young man.

Kebaso challenged the youth who he claimed numbered about 15 million and wanted each one to volunteer to donate at least 100 shillings for his presidential campaign.

He claimed that if each one donated without any compulsion, then he would have about 1.5 billion Kenyan shillings, money which he described as enough to run the 2027 presidential campaign and emerge victorious.

“Money is something, but it is not everything. It’s something you need to facilitate the change you want. And that money we can raise. 15 million young people if we contribute 100 each, do you know how much that money is?” Kebaso challenged the youth.

“That is like 1.5 billion. That is enough money to run our campaign and win the presidency. Just 100 bob and we win. Let’s believe in ourselves, let’s refuse to depend on others and instead they depend on us. It’s time to save our parents from this joke,” he retorted further.

However, his remarks were met with great anger by some of X's followers who asked him to stop thinking about donations all the time and instead lead with actions of charting a way forward.

Here are some of the comments on the video that X posted;

@eshiwani_john: “Open the church now”

@PiusReche02: “Manze You Cry Online Too Much, Stop Talking and Focus. Show Actions and we shall follow.”

@Brimcodaze: “Just because you expose corruption does not automatically make you a good leader and an alternative. You do not have management experience. Vie for governor, then manage it well if you succeed, then go for the presidency. Don't make the mistake @Peterkenneth made.”

@MaishMwangi07: “This guy should quit politics. He should continue selling chairs and furniture in a shop. Leave this stuff alone to people who understand the job.”

However, there are those who felt like Kebaso was giving the best advice, arguing that a leader who is propelled to power through a people’s campaign is answerable to them unlike the one who used their resources to campaign.

@mattninesixty: “I know even if you talk foul, this guy is a true man, he makes perfect sense millennials and gen z we can change this country once and for all and it will be a great party without them missing anything in their pockets but first let's stop being stupid and listen to each other.”

@davidkituyi: “I like your resolve and for sure, you are one of my main options. I would like to hear your thoughts on Omutata and Maraga.”

@dennismuna1: “It seems most young Kenyans are just jealous of their fellow peer becoming successful politically. They better die in poverty than raise their own who understands them better. Only the young people can bring change.”
