Affordable housing units

The government has announced the launch of the sale of housing units through its affordable housing initiative of Boma Yangu, with prices starting from Sh640,000 for studio units.

Kenyans have been urged to take advantage of the initiative as the state reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality homes for all.

According to the Government Spokesperson, the units will range from Sh640,000 for studio units to Sh1,280,000 for a two-bedroom unit.

The Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, through a notice, however, noted that the prices displayed on the platform are provisional and will be reviewed to align with the updated rates.

Housing PS Charles Hinga had earlier said that over 1,189 affordable housing units had been completed since 2022, with another 139,703 more currently under active construction.

He explained that the comprehensive project pipeline includes projects for student accommodation with over 128,000 beds under procurement and over 416,966 units planned for the next three years, building toward a transformative program to provide affordable homes for Kenyans.

Boma Yangu is a government initiative that offers affordable housing services to low and middle-income households.

 It aims to reduce the gap between demand and supply for housing in Kenya and provide the main component of a large framework established towards 200,000 Affordable Houses annually.
