The Heritage of High Tea
High tea, a beloved British tradition, beautifully blends sophistication with hearty indulgence. Its roots trace back to the 19th century, when the Duchess of Bedford famously introduced afternoon tea to bridge the long gap between lunch and dinner—a refined affair of finger sandwiches, delicate pastries, and, of course, tea. This ritual soon became a cherished social pastime among the upper class.
Meanwhile, the working class embraced their own version: high tea. Served at a proper dining table after a long day, it featured more substantial fare—think meats, breads, and hot dishes—paired with the comforting ritual of tea.
