President William Ruto on Wednesday presented a charter to the Riara University in a ceremony held at State House, Nairobi and attended by founders Daniel Gachukia and Eddah Gachukia.

Speaking during the event, Ruto commended the two saying said they had earned this moment because of their progress.

Noting he was happy to be part of the history of the institution, the Head of State explained that he arrived at the event at the stipulated time but was informed that it could not begin.

“I was told that Daniel and Professor Gachuki have not arrived and I said with age, you can get away with anything and there was no way this function would be postponed,” he said.

“I a very proud that today in a very small way, I am happy that I have become part of your history by the honour that you have received and by signing this charter." 

Ruto said the government will be at hand to support and assist the university.

The varsity has been operating under a Letter of Interim Authority awarded by the Commission for University Education (CUE) on August 2, 2012.
