THE STAR INFOGRAPHIC

Microplastics—tiny plastic particles less than five millimeters in length—have infiltrated food, water, and even the air we breathe.

World Economic Forum shows that the highest contamination comes from bottled water, containing 94.37 microplastic particles per gram/litre/m³, followed by beer (32.27), air (9.80), and tap water (4.24).

Seafood, sugar, salt, and honey also contribute to daily microplastic intake.

Research estimates that an average person ingests between 78,000 and 211,000 microplastic particles annually.
