Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo is among the three CS nominees who will appear for vetting before MPs tomorrow.
Others are Mutahi Kagwe (Agriculture and Livestock development) and Lee Kinyanjui (Trade and Investment).
The nominees will appear before the Appointment Committee of the National Assembly chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
First to appear before the Wetang’ula panel will be Kagwe – a former minister in retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
Kabogo, who is on the verge of making a comeback on the public space, will be vetted at 3pm, followed by Kinyanjui at 5pm.
The former Kiambu county boss will take over – if MPs approve his nomination - from Margaret Nyambura, who was dropped by changes announced by President William Ruto four months after unveiling the broad-based government.
“Grateful to President for the trust and honour of nominating me as Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Digital Economy. Thank you, Mr President and the people of Kenya, for this opportunity,” Kabogo said following his nomination.
The three nominees are all Uhuru’s allies signaling a close working relationship between Ruto and his predecessor.
They were named weeks after Ruto held a private meeting with Uhuru in Ichaweri, Gatundu South.
In the changes, Kipchumba Murkomen, previously the Cabinet Secretary for Roads, Transport and Public Works, was nominated to the Interior docket, replacing Kithure Kindiki, now Deputy President.
Salim Mvurya was reassigned to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports. He was initially in charge of the lucrative Trade docket.
Kabogo was the first Kiambu governor before losing to Ferdinand Waititu in the 2017 and his attempt to win back the seat was dealt a blow in 2022 by current Governor Kimani Wamatangi.
The immediate leader of Tujibebe Wakenya Party joined forces with Ruto in the 2022 general election and was among the principals in Kenya Kwanza.
He is joining the government at a time Mt Kenya is rebelling against President Ruto’s government following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
Their joining government is seen
as Ruto strategy to win back the
restive region and regain support
in his re-election bid.
