A crisis is once again looming in the health sector, with doctors and clinical officers threatening to go on strike.

They accuse the government of dishonouring agreements, poor rolling out of the Social Health Insurance Fund, corruption and systemic failures at the Health ministry.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union has given a 21-day strike notice and is threatening a shutdown in all public, private and faith-based hospitals.

Its demands include payment of unpaid medical interns’ dues and implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement signed in 2017 but whose execution the government has been dodging. 

The Kenya Union of Clinical Officers has threatened to withdraw services to Social Health Authority patients, citing discrimination.
