Health PS Mary Muthoni has on several occasions visited the region, urging counties and leaders to step up campaigns for SHA registration. In the last two weeks, she led a team in the region to sensitise residents about SHA.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei said the registration of Kenyans to SHA was still low, yet the benefits are massive.
“When you look at counties like Nandi, we have registered about 130,000 people yet we should have more than one million enrolled. That means we still need to go out and sensitise Kenyans on why and how they should enrol for SHA,” he said.
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has branded some of his cars to go round and sensitise residents of Uasin Gishu on the need to join SHA.
“We know those opposing the SHA initiative are rich people who can pay for their own healthcare yet they want to mislead poor Kenyans,” he said.
Last Sunday, Sudi and PS Muthoni were at a church event in Eldoret where they urged worshippers to register.
“As the government, we are going out to the field to explain to Kenyans all the details about SHA so we can move forward as a country with better healthcare for all,” Muthoni said.
She said all programmes under the former NHIF would remain under SHA but be enhanced to offer better services.
“At the end of the day, we want all Kenyans to access quality health services,” the PS said.
She said EduCare for students had been improved under SHA. Muthoni said the Linda Mama programme is still in place to cater to pregnant mothers.
“Our mothers should not be worried at all. They along with their newborns will enjoy enhanced care under the Linda Mama programme,” she said.
Other leaders, including Uasin
Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and
President Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet,
have urged Kenyans to register for
SHA.
