New Life Church preacher Ezekiel Odero has sparked controversy with his remarks about bearded men.

In an Instagram video shared by DJ Sadic, the pastor is seen leading a church service while delivering his contentious views.

DJ Sadic, who sports a beard, responded humorously in the caption, writing, "Wacha tu achore hio kitu imtoke ??" (Let him draw it out if it helps him).

During his sermon, Ezekiel suggested that men with beards are often unfaithful and tend to misrepresent their relationship status. "They are always single," he claimed.

To illustrate his point, the preacher used a whiteboard to draw examples of bearded men. He shared a personal anecdote, saying, "I had a connecting beard and shaved it off. When my wife asked why, I told her I didn’t want to appear single."

Ezekiel also extended his warning to men with sideburns, grouping them with bearded men in his cautionary message.

What does research actually say about men with beards?

Studies suggest that men with beards are perceived as more masculine, dominant, and aggressive, and they often report feeling more masculine themselves.

Additionally, men with facial hair tend to have higher testosterone levels and may exhibit more hostile sexist tendencies.

Beards are also seen as a symbol of maturity and social status, with research showing that men with beards are often considered more credible and trustworthy, making them more likely to land job interviews.

In marketing roles, bearded individuals were rated higher for expertise and trustworthiness than their clean-shaven counterparts, leading to higher click-through rates in online ads.

A bearded man

While beards are regarded positively by women, especially those with children, children themselves are often not fond of beards.

However, their views tend to shift positively as they approach puberty. Interestingly, children view bearded men as strong but not necessarily reliable.

Beards offer several health benefits, including allergy protection and warmth. Surprisingly, research has found that beards may harbour more germs than a dog's fur, but most bacteria are harmless, with some even potentially used for antibiotics.

Additionally, men with beards are less likely to carry harmful bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA compared to clean-shaven men.
