A police officer dismissed for biting fellow officer during a birthday celebration.
According to the My London magazine, the officer, who has a Nigerian background, was intoxicated during the celebration and grabbed his colleague's throat before biting him.
This was revealed in a hearing held from October 21-23, 2024, led by senior officer Christopher McKay, with IPM Amanda Harvey and Detective Inspector Kirsty Mead serving as panel members, the report stated.
The officer, a police constable, attended a fellow officer's 40th birthday party, with around 70 other attendees at the Goals Sports Bar.
"At around 11:30 p.m., the officer who was affected by Balogun's behavior was climbing the stairs when he saw Balogun in front of him. Balogun then took the officer's glasses from his face and threw them to the floor."
"The officer responded in a friendly manner, but Balogun then grabbed him by the throat. The officer complained about Balogun's behavior shortly afterward. The two were only a foot apart due to the loud music. At this moment, Balogun leaned forward and bit his fellow officer on his right cheek," the magazine detailed.
However, Balogun’s account of the incident differed from that of the victim, as he claimed that he accidentally bumped the victim's glasses.
