Tusker FC coach Julien Mette

wants his players to show greater hunger and determination when they host unbeaten Mara Sugar in a SportPesa League match at Ruaraka Stadium on Monday.

The 3 pm match comes at an important time for the Brewers, who are seeking a quick response after exiting the CAF Confederation Cup and losing 2-1 to Mathare United in their last league match.

Tusker have collected three points from two matches and sit 13th in the standings. However, they have games in hand following their involvement in continental football.

Mara Sugar, on the other hand, are enjoying a good start to the season. They are fourth with six points from four matches, having won one match and drawn thrice

Mette wants his players to put their recent disappointments behind them and focus on getting all three points. “I am looking for players with hunger because we need to get the three points that we missed in our last match,” he said.

The Belgian coach also wants his team to improve defensively and keep their first clean sheet of the season. “Hopefully we get that together with a clean sheet,” Mette said. He was unhappy with Tusker's performance against Mathare United, describing it as “our worst performance since I joined the club”.

Mette hopes to use his attacking system, which allows players to change positions and move forward in numbers. His midfielders will be important in linking the defence and attack, while the wide players will look to stretch Mara Sugar's defence. Mara coach Mike Mururi, however, wants his players to remain focused throughout the match.

The Sugar Millers have drawn their last two matches, against AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars. Their only win came against Mombasa United, while they also drew with 3K FC. Mururi has warned his players about losing concentration, especially when leading.

“We played well in the first half and dictated the tempo of the match while leading,” he said. He was disappointed with how they allowed their opponents back into the game after the break. “We came back relaxed and allowed the opponent back into the game,” Mururi said.

The coach wants his defence to remain organised and avoid conceding late goals. “We have to work on our defensive line and overall defending to avoid conceding in the dying minutes and keep clean sheets,” he said.

The head-to-head record gives Tusker a slight advantage. The Brewers have won two of their last four league meetings, while Mara Sugar have won once. The other match ended in a draw. Mara Sugar won their most recent meeting 1-0 in April, and Tusker will be eager to get revenge.

With Tusker looking to recover from their poor run and Mara Sugar hoping to maintain their unbeaten start, Monday's match is an important test for both teams as they seek to improve their position in the league.
