How to clear an earwax blockage

While earwax serves a vital protective role by trapping dirt, dust, and germs, excessive buildup can lead to troublesome blockages requiring careful management.

According to health guidance from the Cleveland Clinic, addressing an earwax blockage safely involves a precise step-by-step home procedure, provided symptoms do not persist.

The process begins by using earwax-softening drops strictly as directed. To administer these, individuals should tilt their head so that the affected ear faces upward before applying the recommended number of drops. Following application, the head must remain tilted in this position for five minutes to allow the solution to work effectively.

If directed by healthcare guidelines, warm water can then be used to gently soften any loosened wax. Afterwards, the head should be tilted again to drain out the water completely. Once drained, the outer ear needs to be wiped gently with a clean towel.

Crucially, experts advise allowing loosened wax to emerge naturally rather than inserting foreign objects into the ear canal.

However, if the blockage persists despite these measures, individuals are strongly advised to seek professional medical help to ensure safe removal.
