Some of the items discovered by DCI

Detectives have arrested two people suspected of involvement in a robbery in which a woman reportedly lost Sh1 million at gunpoint in Chemobo village, Aldai Constituency, Nandi County.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation in Mudete, Sabatia Sub-County, following investigations into the October 19, 2026, incident.

In a statement on Friday, October 30, the DCI said the woman had withdrawn the money from a bank in Mbale at about 2.50 pm.

She was accompanied by a friend, and the money was intended for the purchase of building materials.

After completing the transaction, the two boarded a matatu and alighted at Shamakhokho PSV stage, where they hired a motorcycle to Chemobo.

However, their journey was interrupted near Erusui Girls Secondary School when a white Toyota Probox reportedly blocked their way.

According to the DCI, four men emerged from the vehicle, two of them allegedly armed with pistols, and confronted the travellers.

The assailants reportedly escaped with the Sh1 million, which was packed in a shopping bag.

They also took another bag containing the woman's National Identity Card, Co-operative Bank ATM card and an Itel mobile phone before fleeing towards Serem Town.

Following the incident, detectives launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the robbery and identify those allegedly involved.

The DCI said an operation conducted overnight on October 29 led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 54 and 34, in Mudete.

The operation involved Serem-based detectives, led by the Officer in Charge of CRIB Western, alongside officers from DCI Hamisi and DCI Sabatia.

A subsequent search of one suspect's residence reportedly yielded several items that investigators suspect could be linked to criminal activities.

The recovered items included two pocket phones, one handcuff, ten assorted mobile phones, several Safaricom and Airtel SIM cards, a penknife, a screwdriver and several cut-out motor vehicle registration number plates.

The DCI said investigators are also pursuing possible links between the two suspects and other similar robberies reported in the region.

Investigations remain ongoing to establish the extent of their alleged involvement and identify any other individuals who may have participated in the incidents.

The arrests come as detectives continue pursuing additional leads in the case.
