Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have inaugurated the new Linda Mwananchi headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, in a show of cooperation among opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The three leaders were joined by DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa and other political figures as they officially opened the offices, which are expected to serve as the movement's operational base as it prepares to unveil its party structures and leadership.
Sifuna, Gachagua and Kalonzo led the opening ceremony, with the three accompanying the Nairobi senator as he opened the gates to the premises before proceeding inside.
Other leaders who attended the event included Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, popularly known as Jicho Pevu.
Prominent figures associated with the Linda Mwananchi team were also present, including interim head of communication Pauline Njoroge and former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo.
The leaders wore T-shirts and caps bearing the colours and names of their respective political parties, reflecting the different political formations represented at the event.
The inauguration comes as the Linda Mwananchi movement prepares to formally unveil its organisational structures and leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.
The presence of leaders from the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), Wiper and DAP-K brought together representatives of different opposition formations.
Gachagua, Kalonzo and Wamalwa have been among leaders calling for opposition unity, with the broader objective of mounting a joint challenge against President William Ruto in the next General Election.
The emerging cooperation brings together figures associated with different political formations, including the Linda Mwananchi movement, Gachagua's DCP and the Ukombozi Alliance.
The leaders have called for a united opposition front, although how the different parties and political groupings will organise themselves ahead of the polls remains a subject of ongoing political discussions.
The new headquarters is expected to provide a base for Linda Mwananchi's activities as the movement seeks to formalise its structures and expand its political presence.
