Saumu Mbuvi has officially withdrawn from the Nairobi Women Representative race under the National Economic Development Party (NEDP), bringing her political bid to an end for now.

In an official statement announcing her decision, Saumu said the move followed considerable reflection, consultations and careful consideration of the circumstances surrounding her political journey.

She acknowledged that stepping away from the race was not an easy decision, noting that her father's counsel and wishes played a significant role in determining her next course of action.

“This decision has not been arrived at lightly. It follows the counsel and wishes of my father, whose guidance I hold in the highest regard, alongside other unavoidable circumstances that have necessitated a reassessment of my immediate plans and priorities,” she stated.

Her announcement signals a pause in her pursuit of the Nairobi Women Representative seat, although she maintained that withdrawing from the race does not mean abandoning the principles that inspired her political ambitions.

Saumu Mbuvi Says Withdrawal Was Not an Easy Decision

In her statement, Saumu explained that leadership involves recognising when circumstances require a change of direction rather than pursuing personal ambitions regardless of the situation.

She noted that while her political journey had been meaningful, she had reached a point where stepping back was necessary.

“While the journey has been meaningful, I recognise that leadership requires not only the courage to pursue an ambition, but also the wisdom to discern when circumstances call for restraint, reflection, and a different course of action,” she said.

Saumu also acknowledged the people who had supported her political ambitions, thanking those who believed in her vision and invested their time and effort in the journey.

She emphasised that her decision should not be interpreted as a loss of faith in the ideals that motivated her to seek the elective position.

“Please understand that this decision is a matter of circumstance and personal responsibility, rather than a diminished belief in the ideals, aspirations, and principles that inspired my pursuit,” she added.

Saumu Mbuvi Thanks Supporters After Exiting Race

The former aspirant expressed gratitude to her supporters, saying she did not take their trust and commitment for granted.

She also maintained that leadership goes beyond holding public office, arguing that the values one upholds and the contributions one makes to society remain important regardless of political position.

“I firmly believe that leadership is not defined solely by the positions we seek or the offices we occupy, but by the values we uphold, the relationships we cultivate, and the contributions we continue to make to society,” Saumu stated.

Her remarks suggest that she intends to maintain her commitment to service even as she steps away from the electoral contest.

Saumu Hints at Upcoming Projects

Although she has withdrawn from the Nairobi Women Representative race, Saumu indicated that she could share more about her future plans when the time is right.

“At the appropriate time, and when circumstances permit, I shall communicate further regarding my future direction and the opportunities through which we may continue working together,” she said.

She also hinted at upcoming projects, expressing hope that she would continue collaborating with others to pursue shared aspirations and create meaningful impact.

For now, Saumu has asked for understanding and continued goodwill as she navigates the decision.

“I remain committed to the broader vision of service, progress, and positive change,” she affirmed.
