Tusker FC coach Julien Mette has now shifted focus to the SportPesa League after exiting the CAF Confederations Cup.
Tusker bowed out of the continental competition after losing 2-1 on aggregate against Tanzania’s Sindida Black Stars on Sunday.
The Brewers drew 1-1 in Dar es Salaam in the second leg on Sunday but lost 1-0 at home a week ago. In the Sunday game, Jonathan Sowah scored for the hosts while Nigerian import Victor Mbaoma equalized for Tusker.
Coach Mette has now shifted gears to the domestic league, where he is targeting the SportPesa League title and the MozzartBet Cup.
“We have sent the message in our recent games that we are out to win the league. The players are motivated. We want to come back strong in either the CAF Champions League or Confederations Cup next season. We have learnt our lessons, and we will come back stronger,” said the tactician.
Mette warned his charges that as they resume league action on Thursday against Mathare United at Police Sacco Stadium, there will be no room for mistakes. “The players should do their best and give 100 percent,” he noted.
Tusker FC beat Ulinzi Stars 2-0 in their opening game of the season.
The coach said he was satisfied with the second-leg performance but expressed disappointment over the first-leg performance, which he termed below par. He said some of the players who started the first leg did not give their all.
Further, the coach despite their exit, Tusker was the better team.
“I’m proud of how we played in the second leg; they played with intensity, energy, and will. No regrets at all. If we played like this in the first leg, we would have won 3-0. Of course, the players are sad after crashing out of the tournament. However, there is room for improvement,” said the coach.
