Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has reaffirmed his commitment to uniting opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Kalonzo dismissed claims of divisions within their ranks following his visit to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence.

Kalonzo said his friendship with Gachagua had remained intact since the latter’s impeachment, describing their visits to each other’s homes as normal engagements between friends and relatives.

“Since the impeachment of H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, he and I have stood together as friends and allies,” Kalonzo said.

“My brother Rigathi has been to my Muuna home in Tseikuru. Now I have been to his in Wamunyoro. What is wrong with friends and cousins visiting one another?” he posed.

The Wiper leader accused unnamed individuals of spreading propaganda to create confusion among opposition leaders, arguing that their concern was the prospect of a united political alternative to President William Ruto’s administration.

“What worries the predator regime is not a visit between friends and cousins. It is a united alternative government in waiting,” he said, urging Kenyans to ignore what he described as attempts to sow discord within the opposition.

Kalonzo said he had made it his personal mission to bring opposition leaders together and would continue engaging his colleagues despite political differences.

“I have made it my personal mission to unite the opposition, and I will keep engaging all my colleagues. Liberating Kenya is bigger than any one person’s ambition,” he said.

He insisted that unity remained central to the opposition’s efforts ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring that unity is not negotiable.

The remarks come amid renewed political consultations among opposition figures as they explore possible cooperation ahead of the next general election.

Gachagua recently hosted Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and other leaders associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement at his Wamunyoro residence, in a meeting that brought opposition unity and future political cooperation into focus.

Earlier, Kalonzo's Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) dismissed claims by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala that the party will meet the Wiper leader on Monday to persuade him to support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s 2027 presidential bid.

Wiper, through its party spokesperson, lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, rejected Malala’s remarks shortly after the DCP deputy leader announced the planned meeting.

Malala said DCP had settled on Sifuna as its preferred candidate to represent the Opposition in the race against President William Ruto and was reaching out to other leaders to build consensus around his candidacy.

“You have seen DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua meet Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna the other day. They are united,” Malala said.

“We have said we also want to talk to Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka. We want him to support Sifuna.”

He added: “On Monday, we are going to meet Kalonzo. In DCP, we have agreed Sifuna is up to the task.”

However, Njiru dismissed the assertion, accusing Malala of advancing a divisive narrative that could undermine efforts to unite the Opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“I urge the media to treat this statement with the contempt it deserves. The remarks attributed to Senator Malala can only be characterised as the work of a playwright rather than a serious political actor. Malala appears intent on driving a divisive knife through the heart of the opposition,” Njiru said.

The exchange highlights the differences emerging among opposition leaders over who should carry their presidential ticket as they seek to mount a joint challenge against President Ruto.
