Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has approved the promotion of 1,948 police officers whose advancement had been pending, following a Court of Appeal ruling.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the promotions followed the ruling in Civil Appeal Nos. E971 and E957 of 2025.
The officers had completed the required promotional courses and met all the prescribed conditions for advancement, the service said.
In a statement, the NPS congratulated the officers on their promotions and wished them success in their new ranks.
Kanja urged the newly promoted officers to uphold professionalism, integrity and diligence in carrying out their duties, noting that promotion came with greater responsibility.
He called on them to discharge their mandate with fairness, accountability and respect for the rule of law.
The service said the promotions were expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve service delivery to the public, in line with its ongoing reforms and strategic objectives.
The NPS reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and serving the public, saying it remained focused on building a professional, efficient and responsive police service that delivers people-centred and accountable policing.
