Sirisia MP John Waluke has predicted that East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Winnie Odinga will defeat Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, in the race for the Nairobi senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
Waluke expressed confidence in Winnie, the daughter of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as a potential contender for the seat, with political temperatures rising ahead of next year’s election.
Speaking during a meeting in Bungoma county at the weekend, the MP expressed confidence in Winnie’s chances, saying Jalang’o would be unable to stop her from clinching the seat.
“I have said it in front of the father (priest); write it down because you may need to refer to it,” Waluke said, daring those present to hold him accountable for his prediction after the election.
He maintained that Winnie was poised to emerge victorious in the contest, which is shaping up to be one of the closely watched political battles in Nairobi ahead of the 2027 elections.
Jalang’o has officially declared his intention to contest the Nairobi Senate seat, setting the stage for a potentially competitive battle within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), where both he and Winnie have political interests.
The Lang’ata MP has indicated that he is prepared to undertake grassroots campaigns and has pledged to support whoever wins the party’s ticket if he fails to secure the nomination.
Winnie recently announced her interest in the senatorial seat, adding a new dimension to the contest as ODM navigates its political strategy ahead of the next General Election.
Incumbent Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is also part of the shifting political landscape, with speculation surrounding his possible pursuit of a higher political office.
Waluke, who is aligned with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration, has been active in political mobilisation in Western Kenya, placing his prediction in the context of the emerging political contest ahead of 2027.
Meanwhile, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has said he will not attack Winnie as he pursues the Nairobi governorship, citing his relationship with her late father, Raila.
Babu said Winnie had a right to pursue her political ambitions just as he was entitled to seek the county’s top seat, leaving voters to decide who should occupy the two positions.
