A 35-year-old woman died while another woman was left in critical condition following a reported stabbing incident at a rental house in Kajiado Town.
The deceased, identified as Mbithe, was pronounced dead on arrival at Kajiado County Referral Hospital, where she had been rushed alongside the second victim, aged 49, police said.
Police said the incident occurred at around 5 pm on October 12, 2026, at a rental house belonging to a man aged about 30.
Police officers rushed to the scene following reports of a commotion at the premises, located next to Kajiado Police Station.
According to police, officers found one of the women lying in a pool of blood a few metres from the house entrance, with multiple stab wounds to her head and right hand.
Mbithe was found inside the man's house with multiple stab wounds to her left hip and both forearms, police said.
The two women were taken to Kajiado County Referral Hospital for emergency treatment, but Mbithe was pronounced dead on arrival.
The second woman was admitted in critical condition, police said.
Police said the man later walked into Kajiado Police Station carrying two bloodstained knives and reportedly told officers he had carried out the attack.
He reportedly told police he was angry with the woman over domestic issues, although the motive for the incident had not been independently established.
He was arrested and placed in police custody as investigations into the incident continued.
The deceased's body was moved to Kajiado County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and a post-mortem examination.
Crime Scene Investigation officers from Kajiado Central processed the scene as part of the ongoing investigations.
The incident comes amid continued reports of violence involving people in domestic settings.
In a separate incident, a 42-year-old woman was found stabbed to death inside a rented house at Ndunyu Chege Market in Gatanga Sub-County, Murang’a County, on Monday.
The deceased, identified as Nelly Wambui Njeri, was found lying face down on a bed with multiple stab wounds to her back and the left side of her body below the armpit, police said.
According to police, the incident was reported by members of the public at around 12.30 pm on October 12, after they became concerned that a tenant in a locked rental house was not responding to calls.
The house had been secured with a padlock, prompting members of the public to raise the alarm after attempts to reach the occupant through a window were unsuccessful.
Police officers broke into the house and found Njeri's body on the bed, with injuries consistent with a stabbing, according to the initial report.
The scene was processed for evidence as detectives began investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her body was later moved to Kirwara Level Four Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Police are investigating the incident as a suspected murder.
