Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has laid the foundation stone for the construction of Kirigiti Primary School in Kiambu Constituency, in a move expected to bring education closer to families and ease the burden on pupils who have been walking long distances to attend classes.

The project is expected to address a longstanding gap in educational infrastructure in Kirigiti, where children have been forced to travel approximately two kilometres to neighbouring schools to access primary education.

Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony, Kindiki said the new school would improve access to education by allowing children to learn within their community rather than endure long journeys every school day.

The construction will be undertaken by the State Department for Housing and Urban Planning under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in Kiambu Constituency.

Kindiki said the project would be completed within six months, expressing confidence that the facility would provide much-needed relief to parents and pupils in the area.

He said the government was committed to implementing development projects across the country, adding that its record in fulfilling campaign pledges would be central to its engagement with voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“The government is ready to initiate projects across the country. We are fulfilling our 2022 campaign manifesto, and we will seek re-election based on our development record,” he said.

The construction is expected to create temporary jobs for local residents while delivering a permanent educational facility that will serve children in Kirigiti and neighbouring areas.

The project comes amid broader government efforts to expand public infrastructure and improve access to services at the grassroots level.

Kindiki reiterated the government's commitment to extending development projects to different parts of the country, maintaining that education and other essential services remained important pillars of the national development agenda.

He said the Kenya Kwanza administration would present its development record to Kenyans ahead of the 2027 polls, arguing that the implementation of its campaign promises would form part of its case for re-election.

He also said the government would continue fighting drug abuse in society.

He noted that the government had deployed an adequate team in the area to fight the menace.
