Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki was elected chairman of the Council of Governors (CoG), succeeding Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, who had led the council since 2024.

Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka was elected deputy chairman, completing the new leadership team.

The meeting brought together governors from across the country for the election of the council’s new executive leadership.

The leadership change comes as county governments continue to push for adequate funding, timely disbursement of equitable share allocations and settlement of outstanding financial obligations.

The CoG represents Kenya’s 47 county governments and provides a platform for consultation and coordination on matters affecting devolution.

The photos captured governors moments from the meeting and the handover from the outgoing chairman to Njuki.
