Ndia MP George Kariuki and his Juja counterpart George Koimburi join Muthaara residents in Juja constituency at an empowerment meeting on October 9, 2026/HANDOUT

Mt Kenya residents have been urged to support President William Ruto’s administration, with local leaders saying the delivery of development projects should be a key consideration ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Ndia MP George Kariuki, popularly known as GK, and Juja MP George Koimburi said continued engagement with the government could help address infrastructure gaps in the region, particularly road construction and electricity connectivity.

The lawmakers spoke during a public sensitisation and empowerment meeting at Muthaara village in Juja constituency, Kiambu county.

They acknowledged that some areas of the region, including parts of Juja, continued to face infrastructure challenges, and called for government commitments to be fulfilled.

Kariuki assured residents that the Ndarugu-Nyacaba-Maraba-Muthaara and Kimbo-Matangi roads, which were earmarked for tarmacking, would be upgraded as promised by the President during his recent visit to the area.

“These roads will play a crucial role in opening this region to more developments and improving the area economy. Transport will be eased and businesses will grow immensely. We must support our President who is working tirelessly to ensure that these projects are implemented,” Kariuki said.

The Ndia MP, who chairs the National Assembly’s Committee on Roads and Infrastructure, said improved roads were essential to unlocking Juja’s economic potential and easing the movement of people and goods.

He also said the government had allocated resources for the projects and that construction was expected to begin soon.

Kariuki has been campaigning for greater support for the Kenya Kwanza administration in the Mt Kenya region.

He is also expected to seek a higher political office in the 2027 General Election, although his reported interest in becoming Ruto’s running mate has not been formally confirmed.

Koimburi linked Juja’s development agenda to the next General Election, saying residents would assess the administration based on its delivery record.

He said improved roads and wider electricity connectivity were among the key demands residents wanted addressed.

“Juja residents want the President to build the roads for us to ease movement, boost transport and trigger economic growth. They also want him to ensure that all homes are connected to the national grid. I can assure him [Ruto] that he will earn our total support once he meets these promises,” Koimburi said.

Juja Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Ndege, who attended the meeting, said the government remained committed to improving security and extending electricity connectivity to more households.

Ndege urged residents to seek reliable information on government initiatives and local development programmes rather than rely solely on discussions circulating on social media.

The meeting came amid concerns over the condition of roads in parts of Juja, with residents calling for promised upgrades to improve accessibility and support economic activity.
