The Endebess Sub-County Mother and Child Hospital complex is under construction in Trans Nzoia County on October 10, 2026.President William Ruto has set a December 2026 deadline for the completion of the Endebess Sub-County Mother and Child Hospital in Trans Nzoia, with the facility expected to expand access to specialised healthcare for mothers and newborns.
The hospital is 88 per cent complete, with the government releasing an additional Sh140 million to ensure the project is finished by the end of the year.
Ruto announced the timeline during his tour of Trans Nzoia County on Saturday, October 10, when he inspected the ongoing construction.
“Impressed by the progress of the Endebess Sub-County Hospital Mother and Child Complex, which is 88 per cent complete and scheduled for completion at the end of the year,” Ruto said.
The national government has invested Sh248.8 million in the project, which is expected to reduce the need for residents of Endebess and neighbouring communities to travel long distances in search of specialised medical services.
Area Medical Superintendent Dr Emmanuel Wanjala said the facility would strengthen healthcare delivery and bring advanced medical services closer to residents once completed and equipped.
Wanjala said the hospital would improve access to essential medical services, strengthen emergency response and expand maternal and child healthcare.
“Residents are looking forward to the completion of the facility, which is expected to significantly enhance the capacity of the local health system to meet a wider range of medical needs,” he said.
The complex will feature a radiology unit to be equipped under the National Equipment Service Programme, an accident and emergency unit, a maternal and child health wing and an outpatient department.
It will also have a 26-bed maternity unit and 54 cots for newborns, increasing the facility's capacity to provide maternal and neonatal care.
Medical Services Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga said the investment was aimed at ensuring mothers deliver safely and newborns receive care close to home.
Oluga also urged more than 559,000 Trans Nzoia residents who are yet to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to enrol, saying registration would help improve access to medical services.
During the same tour, Ruto inspected the 20-kilometre Endebess-Matumbei road, which is being constructed at a cost of Sh1.1 billion.
The visit formed part of the President's 10-day North Rift development tour ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations scheduled for October 20 in Eldoret.
