Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged Mt Kenya leaders to rally behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, warning that divisive succession politics could undermine the region’s development agenda.

Speaking during a church service in Limuru, Kiambu County, Ruku called on leaders to focus on development rather than political divisions as the country heads towards the 2027 General Election.

He maintained that Ruto remained committed to supporting the region, arguing that political hostility and divisions could weaken Mt Kenya’s influence and slow development efforts.

“We will not allow petty leaders full of hatred to mislead our people. We will inform our people on what the government is doing in our region,” Ruku said.

The Cabinet Secretary also urged leaders allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party not to be intimidated by the political contest unfolding in Mt Kenya.

He called on them to engage residents on the government’s development initiatives in the region rather than be distracted by political differences.

Ruku also threw his weight behind Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, describing him as a key figure in advancing Mt Kenya’s interests within the national government.

He said elders had mandated Kindiki to promote unity and development, urging local leaders to work together to prevent political differences from dividing residents.

“We are lucky that we have Prof Kindiki as Deputy President. He has been mandated by elders to push for unity and development in the area,” he said.

Ruku was accompanied by Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a, Kiambaa MP Njuguna Ka Wanjiku, Limuru MP John Kiragu and Taita Taveta MP John Bwire, among other leaders.
