A US report has accused Kenyan officials of colluding with recruitment agencies and Russian authorities to recruit more than 1,000 Kenyans to fight in the Russia-Ukraine war. The 2026 Trafficking in Persons Report alleges victims were lured by promises of security and construction jobs before being pressured into signing military contracts. It also faults the government for failing to act against agencies allegedly linked to trafficking and owned by public officials.
