Britam Group managing director and chief executive Tom Gitogo/ SCREENGRABBritam Asset Managers has launched two special investment funds offering local investors access to global equities and a wider range of local and international assets.
The Britam Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund and the Britam Multi Asset Special Fund were approved by the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) in August and target investors seeking long-term growth and portfolio diversification.
The launch expands Britam’s investment offering beyond local markets as Kenya’s collective investment scheme industry continues to grow.
According to the CMA, assets under collective investment schemes reached Sh948.7 billion in June, representing a 59.1 per cent increase from the same period a year earlier.
Britam Asset Managers manages more than Sh300 billion in assets, making it one of Kenya’s five largest asset managers. The company also manages more than Sh55 billion in the fixed-income category as of July.
Britam Group managing director and chief executive Tom Gitogo said the funds would give African investors an opportunity to invest in companies operating in global markets.
“Every day, Africans participate in the global economy as consumers, businesses and users of technology created around the world. We believe they should also have the opportunity to become investors in the companies driving that economy, own a stake in their growth and share in the value they create,” Gitogo said.
The Britam Enhanced Global Equities Special Fund provides access to global companies and industries, including technology and artificial intelligence, healthcare and life sciences, energy and the digital economy.
The Britam Multi Asset Special Fund invests across different local and international asset classes, including equities, fixed income and commodities, within a single portfolio.
Britam Asset Managers chief executive Barack Obatsa said the funds would expand the investment choices available to customers as their needs and ambitions change.
“These funds are the next step in widening the choices available to investors as their needs and ambitions evolve,” Obatsa said.
He said the funds build on the company’s existing investment options by extending access to global markets and different asset classes, supported by professional research, expertise and risk management.
