Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru./FILEKirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has emerged as the most preferred woman to serve as deputy president, according to a new survey by Politrack Africa, ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The survey puts Waiguru at 36 per cent, ahead of People’s Liberation Party Leader Martha Karua, who garnered 27 per cent, and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga at 15 per cent.
Nine per cent of respondents declined to state their preference, while seven per cent said they were not familiar with the candidates. Other candidates collectively accounted for six per cent.
The findings come against the backdrop of Waiguru’s recent performance in another Politrack Africa survey, which ranked her the top-performing governor among Kenya’s 47 county chiefs.
In the thematic governors’ performance survey, Waiguru scored a composite rating of 61.5 per cent and a public satisfaction score of 68 per cent. The assessment, conducted between July 13 and 17, evaluated county performance in agriculture, healthcare and water management, alongside overall public satisfaction.
Waiguru scored 60 per cent in healthcare and water provision and 58 per cent in agriculture.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati came second with 58.5 per cent, while Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu and Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti tied at 57.3 per cent. Samburu Governor Jonathan Lati Lelelit scored 54.3 per cent, followed by Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi at 53.3 per cent.
Politrack attributed Waiguru’s rating to initiatives aimed at modernising service delivery, strengthening healthcare, expanding access to water and boosting agricultural productivity.
The latest deputy president preference findings are part of a broader survey examining Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 polls.
The national results show President William Ruto leading in a hypothetical presidential contest with 45.1 per cent, followed by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at 19.6 per cent and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 10.3 per cent.
On political party and coalition identification, the survey places the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at 32 per cent, followed by the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) at 11.7 per cent and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) at 10.6 per cent.
The deputy president preference figures reflect respondents’ stated preferences at the time of the survey and do not necessarily indicate formal nominations or final running-mate choices ahead of the 2027 General Election.
