Officials in Embakasi South plan to hold a multi-agency meeting to coordinate preparations for El Niño rains and address flood risks in the sub-county.
Assistant County Commissioner Violet Muimi will coordinate the meeting, which will bring together the Nairobi County Disaster Unit, National Youth Service, Kenya Red Cross and chiefs.
The agencies are expected to work on clearing Ngong River tributaries by mid-October, following a meeting between Muimi and Embakasi South MP aspirant Jared Oundo.
Oundo, who is also the Executive Director of Jubilant Stewards of Africa, presented a mapping report identifying 17 flood-prone hotspots during the meeting held at Muimi's office in Imara Daima.
Oundo will also submit a list of trained youth volunteers and vulnerable households needing support to the ACC's office for forwarding.
The meeting also agreed on measures concerning Cosmas Ndeti Road in Maziwa.
Muimi's office will convene a site meeting with the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the contractor within seven days to discuss drainage and tarmacking works ahead of the El Niño rains.
Local youth from Maziwa and Kwa Njenga are also to be prioritised for casual labour on the project.
The two sides further agreed to hold monthly youth barazas focusing on peace and entrepreneurship, in partnership with the United SMEs Association of Kenya.
