Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron has urged ODM supporters in Kisumu to strengthen the party by recruiting new members as he steps up his campaign to succeed Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o in 2027.
Speaking during an ODM delegates’ consultative baraza in Seme, Oron urged party supporters to each recruit at least five new members, saying a strong membership base would be critical to strengthening ODM ahead of the next elections.
“I have come here to tell you that going forward, we need to strengthen our party. With how we have registered people in our party, when you leave here, make sure each of you registers five people,” Oron said.
The lawmaker said ODM must remain united and work together to build the numbers needed to secure elective positions, including parliamentary and senatorial seats.
“Anytime we are here, we must come together and work together as an ODM party. We have to have numbers. That is what will see us get MPs and even senators,” he said.
Oron also used the opportunity to campaign for his Kisumu governorship bid, saying he wants to take over from Nyong’o and continue the county’s development agenda.
“When you saw Nyong’o, the governor, he did development for Kisumu County throughout his terms. Now I am going to take this mantle. I want to be the governor,” Oron said.
He promised to pursue an industrialisation agenda across the county if elected, pointing to the absence of major factories in areas such as Seme.
“There are no factories in Seme. We want a factory in each ward. We want development across the county in different wards,” he said.
Oron spoke in Seme during the North Seme and East Seme ODM Delegates’ Consultative Baraza, which brought together party members to discuss strengthening the party and its political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
He urged supporters to remain united as the party prepares for the next electoral contest, saying the decision on the county’s leadership would ultimately rest with voters.
“Wananchi will decide,” Oron said.
The MP’s mobilisation drive comes as political parties in Kisumu intensify grassroots engagement and membership registration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
