Nigerian Afrobeats star Kizz Daniel has opened up about the personal reason behind his recent break from music, revealing that the death of his mother earlier this year forced him to step away from the spotlight.
The singer, whose real name is 'Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe', made the revelation while responding to a fan on X who assumed that his absence was linked to preparations for a new album.
The fan suggested that the singer had been busy working on an album and had therefore “paused” his music activities.
Kizz Daniel, however, clarified that his decision to take a break had nothing to do with a new project.
“I paused for my Mom not an album… Lost her this year, but I gotta keep moving for the rest of the family… sorry I came late this year.”

The candid response offered fans a glimpse into the personal loss behind what had appeared to be a quieter year for the Afrobeats hitmaker.
Rather than taking time away to work on music, Kizz Daniel said he needed to deal with the loss of his mother while also being there for the rest of his family.
His revelation has since drawn messages of condolences and support from fans, many of whom expressed sympathy for the singer and his family.
Kizz Daniel has built a strong following across Africa and beyond with hits including Buga, Woju, Cough (Odo), Lie and Rich Till I Die.
Despite the difficult year, the singer appears ready to continue with his career. His latest release, Owo Oluwa, featuring Young Jonn, Krizbeatz and Wave Choir, was released on September 16, 2026.
The singer's comments also come against the backdrop of other personal losses he has experienced over the years, including the death of his father in 2015 and the loss of one of his triplets in 2021.
For Kizz Daniel, however, 2026 has been particularly difficult.
While fans may have been waiting for new music, the singer's latest revelation makes clear that his time away from the spotlight was first about family, grief and healing.
And now, as he returns to music, Kizz Daniel says he has to keep moving for the rest of his family.
