There is a need for the national and coastal county governments to invest more in the blue economy to help the country address health challenges affecting communities, particularly pregnant women and newborns. Kilifi County Fisheries Department Director David Mwangome says some major countries, including China, have benefited from the nutritional value of marine resources from the Indian Ocean, while Kenyans continue to suffer from diseases linked to deficiencies of minerals obtained from these resources, despite Kenya being a custodian of the ocean.
