Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has been ordered to appear before the High Court on September 22 for mitigation and sentencing after being found guilty of contempt of court. Justice Patricia Nyaundi ruled that police violated an existing order by barricading roads into Nairobi’s CBD on June 25 2026 during the commemorations of the lives lost in 25th 2024 gen z protests, without prior public notice. The court held Kanja personally responsible, with his mitigation expected before sentencing over the breach of the conservatory order.
