The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a Kenya Revenue Authority official in Kisumu over allegations of soliciting a 100,000 shilling bribe to clear tax arrears and facilitate issuance of a Tax Compliance Certificate. EACC said the arrears, initially listed at Sh4.5 million on the iTax system, were later reduced to 142,230 shilling. The complainant negotiated the bribe down to 30,000 shilling, which the officer allegedly received before being arrested by EACC detectives. The suspect was later released on 30,000 shilling cash bail.
