The family of 32-year-old Mercy Maina Wachinga has made an emotional appeal for financial support as they prepare to honour the final wishes she left behind in a handwritten note.

Mercy’s decomposed body was discovered on September 3, 2026, inside her rented apartment in Nairobi’s Lavington estate, weeks after her family and neighbours had lost contact with her.

Her death has since left her loved ones devastated, with her mother and sister now asking well-wishers to help them fulfil the wishes Mercy had carefully outlined before her death.

Mother Makes Emotional Appeal

In a video shared on social media, Mercy’s mother, Grace Nyambura Nderitu, described her daughter as an important person in her life and recalled how much she had helped her.

“Mercy used to help me a lot. She was a very important person to me,” Nderitu said.

She explained that Mercy was her second-born daughter and said the family’s main priority was to ensure that her final wishes were respected.

“She was second born. I just want to reach out to Kenyans for assistance of any kind. I just want to fulfil her wish,” she appealed.

Mercy’s sister, Wambui Maina, also asked Kenyans to support the family as they work towards giving their loved one the farewell she had requested.

“We just want to fulfil her wish, as the mother has put it. God bless you,” Wambui said.

Mercy’s Final Wishes

According to the handwritten note recovered by authorities, Mercy had requested to be cremated, with her ashes scattered in a river.

The note also carried a message urging people to be more compassionate towards one another.

“Stop judging people,” Mercy wrote.

She further asked her mother for forgiveness and expressed her love for rivers while explaining her preference for cremation or having her remains laid to rest in a river.

Mercy’s body was discovered after apartment management raised concerns over a persistent smell and her prolonged absence.

Police later forced open her door and found her body lying on the bed in an advanced state of decomposition.

Police believe Mercy took her own life, with investigators authenticating the handwritten note she left behind.

Her family is now appealing to well-wishers for any form of financial assistance to help fulfil her final wishes. Contributions can be sent via M-Pesa number 0710697437 as the family seeks to give Mercy the send-off she had requested.
