The government has unveiled a Sh2.1 billion preparedness plan to protect livestock farmers and pastoral communities from the anticipated effects of El Niño. Livestock Development CS Mutahi Kagwe said the plan targets 24 flood-prone counties and focuses on early action. Sh1.5 billion will fund vaccines, veterinary medicines and emergency equipment, while Sh250 million will protect critical livestock infrastructure. Other funds will support early warning systems, livestock evacuation, emergency logistics, feed reserves, rehabilitation of water points and farmers awareness campaigns.
