The Teachers Service Commission has flagged as fake a circular circulating online purporting to cancel the deployment and career progression process for public primary school teachers.

The fake circular, dated September 8, 2026 and titled Discontinuation of the teacher deployment process, is attributed to TSC acting CEO Evaleen Mitei and bears the commission's logo and the national coat of arms.

The teacher employer, however, said the document did not originate from the commission.

“Please note that the information is not only misleading but fake. We urge the public to disregard the circular and to always rely on our official communication channels (TSC Kenya on Facebook and @TSC_KE on X) for accurate information,” the commission said on its social media platforms.

The circular, addressed to regional, county and subcounty directors of education, heads of primary and secondary institutions and teachers, purported to terminate the deployment of primary school teachers holding diploma and degree qualifications to junior and secondary schools.

It referred to a document verification exercise conducted in March 2026, claiming that teachers who participated in the exercise had been formally notified that the process had been terminated.

“All primary school teachers who participated in the document verification exercise conducted in March 2026 are formally advised that the process has been terminated. Accordingly, all applications verified during or before that exercise should be considered unsuccessful,” the fake circular stated.

It further claimed that pending applications, shortlisted teachers and processing lists had been nullified, while all new deployment applications would no longer be received or processed by subcounty, county or regional offices.

The document also purported to suspend indefinitely all ongoing vetting and verification exercises related to teacher deployment.

It created an exception for teachers who had already received official deployment letters and reported to their newly assigned institutions, claiming they would remain at their current stations without disruption.

The fake notice also purported to address career progression, claiming that teachers who had acquired higher academic and professional qualifications would be considered for upward mobility through the existing Career Progression Guidelines and competitive promotion advertisements issued by TSC.

TSC did not clarify whether there was an ongoing teacher deployment and career progression exercise that the fake circular was purporting to cancel.

The commission has, however, recently invited applications from qualified teachers for 1,631 promotion vacancies in the positions of Deputy Principal III, Senior Master II and Deputy Headteacher II.

The applications for the promotion vacancies are due to close on September 14, 2026.

The circulation of the fake notice comes amid continued interest among teachers in deployment opportunities and promotion following the introduction of new qualification and career progression requirements in the teaching service.

TSC has urged teachers and the public to verify information concerning recruitment, deployment, promotions and other commission programmes through its official communication channels.
