The Kenya Association of Manufacturers is warning that higher excise duty on industrial inputs could hurt the country’s manufacturing sector. KAM CEO Tobias Alando says taxes on products such as industrial sugar, and particleboard will raise production costs and weaken the competitiveness of local manufacturers. He says the measures could also make imported finished goods more attractive and undermine Kenya’s push for industrialisation and job creation.
