Detectives are holding three suspects in connection with several reported cases of sexual assault and robbery in which women were allegedly lured through TikTok before being attacked.

The suspects were arrested in the Benedicta area of Ruai following intelligence-led investigations and a forensic trail that detectives said may link them to incidents reported in Buruburu, Embakasi and Ruai.

Investigators allege that the suspects used an anonymous TikTok account to contact women and arrange physical meetings.

According to detectives, some of the women agreed to meet people they had interacted with online before allegedly being taken to secluded or abandoned areas.

The encounters allegedly turned into sexual assaults and robberies, with investigators reporting that some victims were robbed of money, mobile phones and other personal belongings.

In some cases, detectives said the victims were allegedly forced to transfer money through M-Pesa to accounts associated with the suspects.

Six mobile phones and two hooded jackets were recovered during the arrests, according to investigators.

Detectives said five complainants have identified the suspects in separate cases. The identifications, together with other evidence gathered during the investigation, will form part of the ongoing inquiry.

Investigators are also looking into whether the suspects may be linked to other reported incidents and are appealing to anyone with relevant information to come forward through the appropriate channels.

The investigation has also prompted renewed warnings about meeting people first encountered on social media.

Detectives have advised the public, particularly young people, to exercise caution when arranging physical meetings with people they have met online.

Those meeting online acquaintances for the first time have been encouraged to choose public and secure locations, inform a trusted person about their whereabouts and avoid being taken to secluded or unfamiliar areas.

The three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

They have not been convicted of any offence, and the allegations against them remain subject to the ongoing investigation and any subsequent court process.
